FAQ
What is Vaultage?
Vaultage is a local-only encrypted vault for photos, videos, and files on iPhone and iPad. It has no account, no server, and no cloud sync.
What can I store in Vaultage?
Photos and videos from your library, files from the Files app, and photos or videos you take inside Vaultage. Originals are stored byte-for-byte.
Do I need an account?
No. There is nothing to sign up for, and Vaultage never asks for your email address.
Does Vaultage upload my files?
No. Your vault and its encryption keys stay on your device. Vaultage has no servers to upload to.
Does my iPhone passcode open the vault?
No. The vault has its own password, six-digit PIN, or pattern. Your device passcode and Face ID do not unlock it.
Can I unlock Vaultage with Face ID?
Not currently. The vault opens only with its own credential, so someone who can unlock your phone cannot open the vault.
What happens if I forget my vault password?
Nobody can reset it, including us. If you made an encrypted backup, reinstall Vaultage, create a new vault, and restore the backup with its backup password.
Is my vault included in iCloud backups?
No. The vault is deliberately excluded from iPhone and iCloud backups and opens only on the device that created it. Make an encrypted backup file in Settings to protect against losing your phone.
How do I move my vault to a new iPhone?
Create an encrypted backup on the old device, save the file somewhere safe, then create a vault on the new device and choose Restore from backup. See the full steps.
Does Vaultage delete the original photo from my library?
No. Vaultage imports a copy. After checking the import, delete the original in Photos and empty Recently Deleted.
Can I search inside my vault?
Yes. Text recognised in photos and supported files is searchable after you unlock. The search index is encrypted inside the vault and never shared with Spotlight or iCloud.
What is discreet mode?
An optional Calculator or Clock cover shown while the vault is locked, plus an abstract Home Screen icon. See how discreet mode works.
Does Vaultage work on iPad?
Yes. Each device has its own vault, and an encrypted backup is how you move a vault from one device to another.
Does Vaultage collect any data?
No. There are no analytics, advertising, or crash-reporting SDKs. Read the privacy policy.
